Pink loves Melbourne, and Melbourne loves Pink. The beloved singer has just completed two concerts at Marvel Stadium as part of her Summer Carnival world tour and the show on Saturday 24 February was nothing short of electrifying, leaving the audience spellbound and exhilarated from start to finish.
From her powerful vocals to her mesmerizing stage presence, Pink delivered a performance that transcended expectations and solidified her status as a true superstar. Emerging from a giant mouth above the stage and bungee jumping down, she kicked things off with her party anthem Get the Party Started.
In true Pink style, the concert was a display of boundless energy as she pumped out hits like Raise Your Glass, Who Knew and Just Like A Pill. Her dynamic stage presence and effortless charisma kept the audience on their feet throughout the entire show.
But beyond the spectacle of the stunts and dance numbers, it was Pink’s raw talent and emotional depth that truly stole the show. Her heartfelt rendition of ballads like Just Give Me A Reason and What About Us brought tears to the eyes of many, showcasing her versatility as a performer and her ability to connect with her audience on a profound level.
As always, it was a family affair. Pink’s daughter, Willow Sage Hart – age 12 – joined her on stage to sing their hit Cover Me In Sunshine. We last saw a much younger, much smaller Willow make a cameo on stage at Rod Laver Arena back in 2018. Son Jameson also popped on stage – last time he was here he was a toddler. This time he came out to score some of Pink’s chocolate haul from the audience members, while showing off his new Carlton Football Club Jersey.
Melbourne and Pink share a special bond. She was practically an adopted resident back in 2013 when her Truth About Love tour set a record for the most number of shows played at Rod Laver Arena on the same tour – 18. In doing so, she broke her own record from 2009 when she played 17 dates at the venue.
On Saturday night, Pink spoke to the audience about the special place Melbourne has in her heart, recounting her earlier concerts 23 years ago, how she had some of her tattoos inked here in the city, and how it was where she learned how to love wine. She connected with the crowd in a way that made them feel like they were having a conversation with an old friend.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Pink’s performance was her incredible athleticism and acrobatic stunts. Her now-traditional encore of performing a gravity-defying aerial routine around the arena to So What left the crowd in awe and admiration, but reluctant to let the evening come to an end.
Pink is the consummate performer, and you’ll never have a bad time at a Pink concert. With her unparalleled stage presence and powerhouse vocals, Pink proved once again why she is one of the most iconic performers of our time.
And if you missed out this time, there’s not a several year wait. She’s back flying around Marvel Stadium again in a few weeks on 12 and 13 March with some tickets still available.
