You Am I delivered an unforgettable performance at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre on Friday 11 April 2025 as part of their ‘Hi Fi Daily Double Down’ tour, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their seminal album, Hi Fi Way. The evening was a testament to the band’s enduring legacy and their profound connection with fans.
The concert was structured into two sets, each dedicated to one of their classic albums. The first set featured Hourly, Daily, showcasing the band’s versatility and emotional depth. Tracks like “Soldiers” and “Mr Milk” highlighted their dynamic range.
Frontman Tim Rogers kept the crowd entertained with his theatrics – sashaying with maracas for a while in a way that was reminiscent of Peter Allen himself (or at least Hugh Jackman as Peter Allen) in a flamboyant get up of gold velvet pants and open shirt.
After a brief intermission, the band returned with renewed energy for the second set, performing Hi Fi Way in its entirety. Rogers’ switched it up to wear green velvet pants and a new shirt. The raw, guitar-driven sound was primal and exhilarating, with standout performances of “Cathy’s Clown,” “Grey” and the anthemic “Purple Sneakers.”
Released by the band in 1995, Hi Fi Way is widely regarded as one of the best Australia albums of all time, and the fans packed into The Forum were there for it.
The night ended with a powerful encore featuring “Opportunities,” “Rumble,” and the iconic “Berlin Chair”. You Am I’s performance was a masterclass in musicianship and showmanship, reaffirming their status as pillars of Australian rock.
