A bold new version of the legendary rock musical Hair is coming to Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre in October and November 2025. Directed by Glenn Elston, known for his work with the Australian Shakespeare Company, this production will bring fresh energy to a show that first made waves in the 1960s for its message of peace, love and rebellion.
Hair tells the story of a group of young people fighting against war and traditional values, and it’s famous for its rock soundtrack and powerful message.
Classic songs like “Aquarius,” “Let the Sunshine In,” and “Good Morning Starshine” will be performed in this updated version, which aims to connect with both longtime fans and new audiences.
Elston is known for creating exciting, immersive theatre, and this production promises to be full of colour, movement, and passion. With its themes of freedom, protest, and hope, Hair is just as relevant today as it was when it first opened over 50 years ago.
