These September school holidays, Melbourne Zoo will be transformed into the mythical world of How to Train Your Dragon, offering families an imaginative mix of movie magic and wildlife adventure. Running from 20 September to 5 October 2025, the Viking-inspired program promises to be one of the most exciting school holiday events in Melbourne.

Young adventurers can take on the Viking Adventure Trail, a scavenger hunt that winds through the Zoo and leads visitors into the world of Berk. Along the way, kids will encounter interactive challenges designed to test their bravery and creativity, while sparking plenty of laughs and teamwork. At the heart of the experience is a chance to meet a spectacular life-sized animatronic Toothless, alongside appearances from fan-favourite characters like Hiccup.
The Viking Training Ground adds another layer of fun, with themed activities that bring the spirit of dragon riding to life. Completing the trail also unlocks entry into a prize draw, with themed packs up for grabs, making the adventure even more rewarding for families.

While the dragons and Vikings will take centre stage, the Zoo’s regular highlights remain on offer. Visitors can pause their mythical quest to see animals up close, take part in keeper talks, or explore family favourites like Keeper Kids and Growing Wild.
With free entry for members and plenty to discover across the grounds, the event offers a perfect mix of entertainment, education and springtime exploration.
