Melbourne’s largest Diwali celebration will light up Marvel Stadium Square on Saturday 11 October, with more than 25,000 people expected to attend the free, all-ages festival.
Running from 2pm to 10pm, Melbourne Diwali has grown into one of the city’s most significant cultural events, celebrating the traditions and contemporary expressions of Melbourne’s Indian community, now numbering more than 150,000. The festival has become a fixture of the city’s cultural calendar, drawing families, students, and visitors into a shared space of colour, music and community.
This year’s program promises more than 600 performers and 200 businesses across food, arts, and community showcases. Audiences can expect dynamic dance performances from junior, intermediate and senior groups, alongside live music and cultural exhibitions. Cricket will also play a starring role, with Melbourne Stars and Renegades uniting to deliver family activities designed to bring sport and culture together in the same space.
Food will be a major attraction, with stalls offering authentic Indian dishes and modern fusions, while businesses and community organisations will highlight the diversity and entrepreneurial spirit of Melbourne’s Indian community. Giveaways, cultural workshops and interactive activations will ensure there is something for every age group.
Entry is free, though visitors can reserve tickets for an enhanced experience. With Southern Cross Station nearby and several tram routes servicing the Docklands precinct, organisers are encouraging attendees to use public transport to make the most of the celebrations.
