Garbage are making their long-awaited return to Australia and New Zealand this summer, with four major headline shows announced for December across Auckland, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney. The tour marks the band’s first Australian headline performances since 2016 and their first visit to New Zealand in more than a decade.
Melburnians can catch them at The Palais in St Kilda on 11 December – a headline show announced in addition to their appearance at the Good Things Festival.
Formed in Madison, Wisconsin, Garbage – Shirley Manson, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Butch Vig – stand as one of the most influential alt-rock bands of the last 30 years. With more than 20 million albums sold and a string of era-defining hits including Only Happy When It Rains, Stupid Girl and I Think I’m Paranoid, their music remains a touchstone for a generation of fans.
‘To be able to return to sacred, stunning New Zealand and to Australia – the home country of our most beloved music business guru, Michael Gudinski – is an immense thrill for us as a band,” said Manson.
“We have been aching to return to this part of the world for a long time now and this tour will be played every night in Gudinski’s honour,’ she said.
The band’s upcoming shows will take place in ornate theatres across the region, closing with a final performance in the Concert Hall at the Sydney Opera House. The tour celebrates Garbage’s acclaimed eighth studio album Let All That We Imagine Be The Light, released in May 2025.
Currently midway through a sold-out North American tour, Garbage have earned glowing reviews, with critics praising their live energy and refusal to play it safe. Their latest single, There’s No Future In Optimism, continues their exploration of human fragility and resilience.
