Boronia’s long-awaited station upgrade is one step closer, with the Victorian Government releasing the final designs ahead of early works set to begin within weeks. The redevelopment aims to deliver a safer, greener and more accessible transport hub that better connects commuters to Boronia’s shopping and dining precinct.

Unveiled by Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams, the design includes a new forecourt canopy inspired by the native flora of the nearby Dandenong Ranges and a widened station concourse to improve pedestrian flow. The plans also feature a landscaped plaza between the station and Dorset Road, designed as both a green meeting place and a more direct link to local businesses.
Commuters will notice several practical upgrades, including new platform shelters, additional seating and improved lighting across the precinct. Safety will be further enhanced through expanded CCTV coverage and better sightlines created by relocating the ticket office to the Erica Avenue entrance and the protective services office to Lupton Way.

Accessibility is another key focus of the project, with plans for upgraded footpaths to both station entrances, a new pick-up and drop-off area on Lupton Way, and more bike hoops with improved cycling connections. These changes aim to make it easier for all passengers to navigate the station precinct and connect with other modes of transport.
Beyond the station itself, the project includes a new pocket park near Boronia Junction Shopping Centre, complete with garden beds, trees, seating and a small nature play area. Traffic light upgrades at the Dorset and Chandler roads intersection will also add a dedicated right-turn arrow, easing congestion for local drivers.

“We’re getting on with upgrading the Boronia Station precinct, making it easier for people to access public transport and connect with local shops and places to eat,” said Williams. “Creating a safe and modern station will completely transform the heart of Boronia.”
Construction on the Boronia Station upgrade will begin soon, with completion expected next year. Full designs and project details are available at bigbuild.vic.gov.au/boroniastationupgrade.
