Melbourne will lead Australia’s next reign of SIX The Musical when the global sensation returns in 2026, with a new season locked in for the Comedy Theatre from July. The city that has embraced everything from blockbuster musicals to sharp, genre-bending theatre will once again be first to welcome the six queens back to the stage.
SIX has become a cultural force in Melbourne, drawing huge crowds during its earlier runs and building a passionate local Queendom that has kept demand high. The show’s mix of Tudor history, contemporary pop and razor-edged humour has long resonated with Melbourne audiences, who love a clever reinvention as much as a standout performance.
Louise Withers, speaking for the producers, says the Australian return is powered by that demand, noting that fans here responded strongly to the production’s modern storytelling and celebration of female agency.
The musical reframes the six wives of Henry VIII as pop icons who retell their stories with wit and power. Created by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, it compresses centuries of history into an electrifying 80 minutes that feels more like a stadium concert than a traditional musical.
Since debuting at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2017, it has grown into a global phenomenon, earning two Tony Awards, storming the West End and Broadway, and racking up more than 5.2 billion soundtrack streams.
The original creative team remains in place for the new Australian season, with casting to be announced. After Melbourne, SIX will head to Sydney in October and Brisbane in January 2027, but the Comedy Theatre will crown the comeback.
