If you have ever wondered how far a balloon can go, Balloon Story is about to provide the answer on a truly epic scale. The global hit immersive experience made entirely from balloons will float into Melbourne in January 2026, bringing colour, creativity and a serious sense of fun to the city.
Making its Australian debut in Melbourne and Sydney, Balloon Story transforms entire worlds using nothing but biodegradable balloons. Every creature, setting and scene is hand-built, inviting visitors to wander through a playful universe where art, storytelling and imagination collide. The Melbourne season will open at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 4 January 2026.

The exhibition arrives fresh from a record-breaking run in New York in 2024, where it took over the historic Park Avenue Armory and created a 30,000-square-foot balloon universe.
More than 400,000 balloons were used to sculpt everything from prehistoric jungles and ancient temples to deep-sea adventures and cosmic cities, drawing tens of thousands of visitors and becoming one of the city’s most talked-about family-friendly experiences.

Australian audiences can expect brand-new content created specifically for this season, celebrating local landmarks, places and stories alongside Balloon Story’s signature journey through time. Visitors move from the age of dinosaurs to underwater worlds, ancient civilisations and space exploration, with each room designed as a cinematic, walk-through scene built at an impressive scale.
Hailed internationally as “the most joyful exhibition of the year”, Balloon Story is produced by an international team of creative directors, artists and balloon engineers with deep experience in immersive design and cultural storytelling. The result is an experience that is playful, photogenic and surprisingly moving.

Balloon Story opens at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 4 January 2026. For further information and tickets visit here.
