Following record-breaking, sold-out seasons in London and across the UK, the critically acclaimed Fiddler on the Roof will tour Australia in 2026, beginning with its inaugural season at Theatre Royal Sydney from July. The production will then travel nationally to Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth, bringing one of musical theatre’s most beloved stories to Australian audiences.
Direct from London’s Barbican Theatre, where it became the best-selling musical of all time, this revival has earned widespread praise. The production has received standing ovations, five-star reviews and three Olivier Awards, including Best Musical Revival.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest musicals ever written, Fiddler on the Roof features an iconic score including If I Were A Rich Man, Tradition, Matchmaker and Sunrise, Sunset. At its heart, it is a joyful celebration of family, community and the enduring power of love in times of change.
Set in 1905 in the small village of Anatevka, the story follows Tevye, a milkman devoted to tradition, whose world is challenged as his five daughters begin to make their own choices. As old customs clash with a changing society, Tevye must decide whether to hold tight to the past or embrace an unfamiliar future.
The production is directed by award-winning Jordan Fein, whose contemporary interpretation has been praised for its emotional depth, inventive staging and striking theatrical detail. After a sold-out run at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2024, the show transferred to the Barbican and went on to tour the UK and Ireland, breaking box office records nationwide.
Further details for the Melbourne and Perth seasons, along with casting announcements, will be revealed soon. Audiences can sign up to the waitlist at fiddlerontherooftour.com.
