Melbourne’s public transport network will run extra trains, trams and buses as tens of thousands of fans head to the MCG for Australia’s first-ever NFL game on Friday 11 September.
The Los Angeles Rams will take on the San Francisco 49ers from 10.35am, with the sold-out match expected to draw a huge crowd to Melbourne. Fans have travelled from more than 35 countries for the game, with almost half of spectators expected to come from interstate or overseas.
Extra trains and trams will run from early Friday morning, with services arriving at the MCG every few minutes before kick-off. Metro trains will also operate throughout Thursday night and into Friday morning, while buses will connect the city and MCG between 12.15am and 5am.
Additional train services, including V/Line services, will run in the early afternoon to help fans leave the city after the game.
Passengers travelling on the Werribee, Laverton and Williamstown lines can also get directly to Richmond Station by taking a Sandringham-bound train.
The extra services come as Melbourne prepares for a packed NFL game week, with free events including Melbourne End Zone at Fed Square and the NFL Kickoff Festival at Melbourne Park.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early and plan their journey before heading to the MCG.
