Shane Warne’s legacy will take centre stage this summer, with the Melbourne Cricket Club confirming a major exhibition of the late cricket icon’s most prized personal items at the Australian Sports Museum from Tuesday December 16. WARNE: Treasures of a Legend will feature 48 pieces from his career, offering rare access to objects that shaped one of Australia’s most celebrated sporting stories.
The collection includes the famous Gatting Ball, his 1999 Cricket World Cup winners medal, the ball from his 700th Test wicket, worn Test shirts and boots, and his well loved floppy white hat. Together, the items reflect both Warne the cricketer and Warne the personality, whose skill and charisma made him a global figure.
His father, Keith Warne, said the family believed the MCG was the natural home for the memorabilia. “We are delighted that the MCC Foundation has acquired Shane’s collection and that it will be exhibited in the Australian Sports Museum at his beloved MCG,” he said.
Keith Warne said the family took comfort in knowing the collection would be preserved for future generations.
“Shane loved the ‘G. It was his cricket playground. He loved playing here and always enjoyed the crowd interaction,” he said.
“To know Shane’s incredible career will be highlighted in the Australian Sports Museum, along with other Australian sporting greats, is something that our family will always be proud of.”
MCC CEO Stuart Fox said the exhibition is a fitting tribute. “Shane Warne was a once-in-a-generation talent whose impact on cricket and the Australian public was immense,” he said.
The exhibition will run until Sunday August 9, 2026, and will be open during major summer fixtures including the Melbourne Stars’ BBL season opener and all five days of the Boxing Day Ashes Test.
