Twenty-five years ago, two young French musicians set out to create something extraordinary. They returned with Moon Safari, an album that would shape a generation, appear in countless movies, and receive both critical and commercial praise.
Released in 1998, Moon Safari by French electronic duo Air brought together lush electronic sounds, dreamy melodies, and a unique retro-futuristic vibe. Even today, this iconic album continues to captivate listeners.
To mark the 25th anniversary of Moon Safari, Air is returning to Melbourne for a special performance on 4 December as part of the 2024 ALWAYS LIVE event. For one night only, they’ll perform the entire album under the stars at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
Fittingly for a duo with a cosmic and creatively layered sound, Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel met in college, where they were studying astrophysics and architecture. They joined forces in the mid-90s and released Moon Safari in 1998, a debut that became a pop culture phenomenon. Songs like Sexy Boy, Kelly Watch the Stars, and All I Need were instant hits, making Moon Safari a defining soundtrack of the late 90s.
Presented by ALWAYS LIVE and TEG MJR, tickets for Air‘s exclusive Melbourne performance are available from Tuesday 12 November from 10am AEDT from Ticketek, with a fan presale kicking off Monday 11 November at 10am AEDT.
