Mornington Peninsula’s Flinders Hotel has unveiled its new renovation which have breathed new life into the historic pub.
Just metres from Western Port coastline, at the foot of the picturesque Flinders village and nestled amongst beaches and coastal walks, the Flinders Hotel is beloved by locals, holidaymakers and day trippers.
Originally built in 1889 to serve the Morse code trainers and staff at the nearby cable station, the hotel has evolved over the years with its community and has continued to deliver friendly country hospitality.
“Flinders Hotel has been part of the community for nearly 140 years now, and this facelift means we can continue to grow and evolve with our surrounds,” says venue manager Nicola Forbes.
“We’re a home-away-from-home for many people and a favourite weekly local for others, everything has been done with our customers in mind and we can’t wait to see them enjoy the renovated spaces especially over the Christmas period.”
Guests are greeted in the lobby which sits at the heart of the pub, the upgraded space features heritage style tiling and panelling, historic framed photography, Slim Aaron prints and vintage posters that lines the walls.
The Sports Bar, to the left of the lobby, has also received the same attention to detail. A space dedicated to a live and loud atmosphere with upgraded AV, TV screens and finishes to the bar, all complimented by the existing fireplace.
Heading into the Bistro, guests are welcomed by banquette seating and a space filled with warm tones, native greenery and refreshed finishes and upgrades to the bar. With adjoining outdoor deck, these spaces create the ideal atmosphere to enjoy the very best Flinders has to offer.
The new modern take on a classic pub menu highlights seasonal local produce inspired by the coastal peninsula region. There are starters and small plates for sharing, traditional classics, modern mains and decadent desserts. Plus, there’s a kids’ menu for the little ones.
Menu must-tries include half shell grilled scallops (chilli garlic butter, pangrattato, lemon), Kingfish Ceviche (coastal greens, lime, namjim dressing), sticky lamb ribs (crispy chickpeas, curry leaf, korma mayo), half roast chook (broccolini, green garlic puree) and salt baked beetroot salad (endive, radicchio, labneh, lambs lettuce, cherry balsamic). A sure to be favourite is the Flinders fisherman’s basket, which is ideal for two and with the option to add on a full or half lobster. The Basque cheesecake (with Davidson plum compote) is the perfect way to finish.
