Escape the heat and dive into a world of creativity and fun at State Library Victoria this summer. Located in the heart of Melbourne, the Library is hosting a series of unmissable events perfect for kids and families during the school holidays. With a plethora of free activities, it’s the ideal spot to keep cool and entertained.
The Summer Kids Takeover on 16 January promises an explosion of color, music, and craft. From 10am to 3pm, kids can unleash their creativity with pavement chalk art sessions on the Library’s famous forecourt.
The lineup of free craft activities includes making sun catchers, bunting, and rainbow chandeliers. Music lovers will enjoy Bollywood dancing, a performance by the Yarra Voices Children’s Choir in the Dome, and a baby sensory experience in the Isabella Fraser Room.
For a quieter escape, the Pauline Gandel Children’s Quarter offers cozy reading nooks in the Library castle and the Colour Your World craft activity from 27 December to 28 January between 3-5pm daily. Kids can create masterpieces with paper and pencils, transforming the Children’s Quarter with their artwork.
Don’t miss Library on the Lawn, running from 16 January to 1 February. Relax on beanbags, enjoy a game of chess, or soak up the sun on the forecourt. Inside, explore free exhibitions like Melbourne Out Loud and World of the Book, or visit the Redmond Barry Reading Room to learn about Ned Kelly.
