The MCG will come alive with a powerful celebration of First Nations culture when acclaimed rapper, writer, and media powerhouse Briggs headlines the pre-match entertainment for the 2025 Dreamtime at the ‘G match on Friday, 23 May.
In a major announcement, the AFL confirmed the inclusion of a host of talented First Nations artists with Briggs, a proud Yorta Yorta/Wurundjeri man, leading the charge.
“I can’t wait to celebrate 10 years of Sir Doug Nicholls Round. The Uncle Doug Round, the Dreamtime game, celebrating the Indigenous players and their contribution to the game over the last 100 plus years, and the celebration of 10 years of Bad Apple’s music, platforming Indigenous artists,” Briggs said.
Joining him on stage will be rising star Barkaa, powerhouse Kobie Dee, and veteran punk-metal outfit BIG NOTER, who have toured globally for more than 15 years. Complementing the music will be a world-class lighting show and dynamic performances from the Djirri Djirri dancers and groups including Wulumbarra, Koorie Youth Will Shake Spear, and the Wurundjeri Kulin dance group.
“I know the whole community looks forward to this game and not just black fellas, it’s a great example of what our kids can aspire to be as artists, as footballers, and anything else they want to be. From home to the MCG, from the smallest stage to the biggest stage. See you on the night,” Briggs added.
The evening will commence with a Welcome to Country from Wurundjeri Elder Uncle Colin Hunter Jnr, followed by a Dreamtime ceremony dance performed by Richmond and Essendon players.
More than 7,000 tickets have been donated by AFL partner AAMI to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The event will be broadcast live and free across Seven, 7plus, FOX FOOTY, Kayo, and BINGE.
