A major new suburb is set to be created in Melbourne’s fast-growing outer north, with the state government today announcing it has approved the Beveridge North West Precinct Structure Plan – a blueprint for an ambitious community.
“This new suburb will be home to around 47,000 Victorians – because we’ve unlocked the land for thousands of new homes as well as schools, parks, and community hubs,” confirmed Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny.
The long-term urban plan envisions 15,000 homes, four town centres, eight schools, five community hubs and over 320 hectares dedicated to waterways, parks, and open space. Of that, 79 hectares will be reserved specifically for parks and sports fields — that’s 13 MCGs’ worth of green space for community recreation.
Infrastructure is front of mind. The first phase begins immediately post-gazettal on 5 August, delivering around 2,400 homes across 140 hectares. Future development hinges on the completion of the fully funded Camerons Lane interchange, ensuring new residents benefit from connected, integrated infrastructure planning.
Districtwide, the plan supports nearly 3,000 local jobs, local shopping options, pedestrian and cycling links — all with the aim of keeping life local, lively and connected.
A new quarry will also be built under strict rules – nincluding a buffer zone and a mandatory rehabilitation deadline set for 2052 – to help source building materials for homes and infrastructure.
“This is part of our long‑term Greenfields plan – unlocking land right across the state to deliver more than 180,000 new homes over the next decade,” Minister Kilkenny added.
The Precinct Structure Plan is part of a landmark ten-year strategy to open Victoria’s most extensive pipeline of greenfield development yet.
