Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre is set to deliver a knockout this spring with the Australian premiere of Job, a psychological thriller that made waves in New York with its razor-sharp take on internet culture and workplace burnout. Opening 17 September for a month-long run, the play promises a gripping night at the theatre.
Written by rising American playwright Max Wolf Friedlich, Job places its audience inside a tense showdown between Jane, a Big Tech worker sidelined after a viral workplace incident, and her therapist Loyd, the man holding the keys to her career. As their sessions unfold, questions of power, morality and survival take centre stage, twisting into a battle of wills that’s as unsettling as it is riveting.
Fresh from its critically acclaimed Broadway season, Job lands in Melbourne with heavyweight casting. Red Stitch ensemble member and Green Room Award winner Jessica Clarke takes on Jane, while Darren Gilshenan – recently nominated for a Silver Logie – plays Loyd, stepping into darker territory after a celebrated comedy career.
Helming the production is Nadia Tass, one of Australia’s most respected directors across film, television and theatre. With set and costume design by Jacob Battista, lighting by David Parker and sound by Daniel Nixon, the staging is set to match the play’s relentless psychological intensity.
Dubbed “a chic, relentless Broadway thriller” by The New York Times and compared to Black Mirror for its eerie relevance, Job is both timely and chilling. It runs from 13 September – 12 October 2025 at Red Stitch in St Kilda. Tickets via redstitch.net.
