The Victorian government has approved a plan that unlocks land to build more than 1,360 new homes in Riddell’s Creek.
The development will create a new community of around 3,800 people on the town’s north-eastern edge, spread across more than 131 hectares.
The plan includes more than seven hectares of open space, a community centre, and upgrades to the Riddells Creek Recreation Reserve. Ten per cent of the new housing will be set aside as affordable homes.
“Victorians should have the same opportunities their parents had – that’s why we’ve introduced bold reforms to boost housing supply in areas where Victorians have been locked out for far too long,” said Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny.
Consultation on the plan drew more than 1,300 submissions, with residents calling for stronger connections, more open space, and shared user paths. Road upgrades will also follow, including a new roundabout at Kilmore Road and Gyro Close, as well as improvements at the intersection of Kilmore and Amess Roads.
“The Amess Road Precinct will give more Victorians the chance to call the beautiful Macedon Ranges home, while still having access to all the key services they need,” Ms Kilkenny said.
Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas said the plan ensures locals can stay close to family and community.
“The Macedon Ranges is the best place to live, which is why we’re unlocking more land to build more homes, so that people that grew up in the region can continue to raise their families here,” she said.
The new estate is expected to grow the Riddells Creek population by more than 2,000 over the next decade.
