Melbourne’s fashion and film worlds are set to collide in dazzling style this spring, with Universal Pictures Australia announcing a major collaboration between Wicked: For Good and Melbourne Fashion Week.
The partnership celebrates the highly anticipated conclusion to last year’s global phenomenon Wicked, arriving in cinemas on November 20.
As part of the collaboration, Federation Square will host a free, Australian-first costume exhibition from October 13 to 26, showcasing the extraordinary creations of Oscar, Emmy and Tony-winning designer Paul Tazewell.
The Wicked Wardrobes Exhibition will spotlight Tazewell’s costumes for Elphaba and Glinda – two of cinema’s most beloved characters – offering fans a rare glimpse of the intricate design and craftsmanship behind the films.
“Melbourne has such a vibrant arts scene and a deep appreciation for theatrical storytelling. It’s the perfect city to showcase the inventive style, craftsmanship and detail that went into creating the world of Wicked,” said Tazewell.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, Wicked: For Good continues the story of Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) as they face the aftermath of their choices and must reunite when a girl from Kansas crashes into their world.
Fed Square will also be hosting a free outdoor sing-along screening Wicked part one on 21 October on its famous big screen.
