Four decades after first topping charts across the globe, pop-rock icon Richard Marx will return to Melbourne next year as part of his national The Songwriter Tour, performing at Margaret Court Arena on Friday, 24 April 2026.
Presented by Paul Dainty AO, AM/TEG Dainty and TEG Van Egmond, the tour marks the Grammy winner’s first visit to Australia since his sold-out 2023 run. Melbourne fans can expect a night packed with timeless ballads and soaring anthems from a catalogue that includes “Right Here Waiting”, “Hazard”, “Endless Summer Nights” and “Hold On To The Nights”, alongside selections from his more recent releases.
“I can’t wait to get back to Australia,” says Richard Marx. “The audiences there have always been so warm and passionate. It’s going to be an unforgettable run of shows.”
Currently appearing as a coach on The Voice Australia alongside Melanie C, Ronan Keating and Kate Miller-Heidke, Marx’s bond with local audiences remains as strong as ever. His return to Melbourne follows four decades of chart success, 14 number one singles, and more than 30 million albums sold worldwide.
Born in Chicago in 1963, Marx’s musical story began early, shaped by his jazz musician father and singer mother. His debut album Richard Marx (1987) went triple platinum, and its follow-up Repeat Offender (1989) produced global hits “Satisfied” and “Right Here Waiting” – the latter becoming his first Australian number one.
Beyond his own hits, Marx has written songs for *NSYNC and Luther Vandross, earning a Grammy for Song of the Year in 2004 with “Dance With My Father”.
Tickets for the Melbourne show go on sale Friday, 24 October at 12 noon via www.tegdainty.com, with pre-sales beginning Wednesday, 22 October.
