Frankston’s waterfront is set to become a towering outdoor gallery next autumn, with more than 400 tonnes of sand shaping The Enchanted Realm at the 2026 Australian Sand Sculpting Championships.
Returning to McComb Reserve from Saturday 28 March to Sunday 26 April, the month-long exhibition will feature 18 large scale sculptures built and completed before opening day, meaning visitors can experience the full display from the moment gates open.
Presented by Sandstorm Events with support from Frankston City Council, the 2026 edition introduces a key change to the competition format. This year, the focus is entirely on solo works. There will be no collaborative entries, placing the spotlight squarely on individual skill, creativity and execution.
Fifteen solo sculptures will be created by 10 Australian and five international artists, each using up to 15 tonnes of sand. Highlights include a 50 tonne hero sculpture, a 25 tonne interactive piece and a 15 tonne entry sculpture.
“We’re thrilled to be back in Frankston for the 2026 Championships,” said Sandstorm Events founder and director Sharon Redmond.
“This year will be bigger and better than ever, with more fun for families and more affordable access for everyone. We’re excited to see what this year’s contenders can achieve, including some new international artists coming out to take the Aussie crown.”
The Australian Champion title, named after Aidan J Graham, will be awarded to the overall winner.
Open daily from 10am to 5pm, the event will also feature sculpture talks, lighting displays and a dedicated Easter weekend program.
