A slice of the French Alps is heading back to the city, with Fondue Chalet returning to Federation Square for a seven-week winter run.
The seasonal setup will once again transform the square’s Skyline carpark into a small alpine village, built around 18 private wooden chalets designed for groups of six to eight. Inside, the focus is on atmosphere as much as food, with warm lighting, timber interiors and outdoor fire pits creating a setting that leans into cold-weather dining.

At the centre of it all is cheese. The experience is run by a French team, with traditional recipes and imported cheeses shaping the menu. It’s built around the idea of shared meals, the kind that encourage people to slow down and spend time at the table rather than rush through it.
This year introduces a choice between two classic dishes. Guests can go for fondue, dipping bread into a pot of melted cheese, or opt for raclette, where cheese is melted and scraped over potatoes and charcuterie at the table. Both options stick close to their alpine origins, offering something familiar to those who know the cuisine and accessible for those trying it for the first time.

The format is simple. Book a chalet, settle in and let the evening unfold around the table.
With bookings priced from $79 per person, it sits somewhere between a casual dinner and a full experience. Either way, it’s one of those winter pop ups that leans into the season rather than working around it.
