Melbourne’s own Amyl And The Sniffers will storm Fed Square this Friday 14 November for a surprise free concert, bringing a jolt of pure rock adrenaline to the city’s heart. Announced just days out, the show offers fans a rare opportunity to see one of Australia’s most ferocious live acts without having to buy a ticket.
The timing could not be better. Fresh from joining AC/DC’s Power Up Australian tour as special guests, the Melbourne quartet are riding a wave of momentum that has taken them from small suburban gigs to international festival stages. Their Fed Square performance – titled High Voltage – promises the same breakneck energy that has made them one of the country’s most electrifying exports.
Formed in Balaclava in 2016, Amy Taylor, Bryce Wilson, Declan Mehrtens and Gus Romer burst onto the scene with Giddy Up, their DIY debut EP written and recorded in just 12 hours. The band’s sound fused the grit of 1970s punk and the swagger of classic Australian pub rock, echoing The Damned and Iggy Pop while paying homage to hometown heroes like AC/DC.
Their self-titled debut album arrived in 2019, winning the ARIA Award for Best Rock Album and launching them onto the global stage. Follow-up album Comfort To Me in 2021 saw them tour the world, sharing stages with Weezer, Green Day, Fall Out Boy, The Smashing Pumpkins and Jane’s Addiction.
By 2024’s Cartoon Darkness, Amyl And The Sniffers had solidified their reputation as a powerhouse rock band, led by Amy Taylor’s unmistakable stage presence. With tracks like Jerkin’ and U Should Not Be Doing That landing in the Triple J Hottest 100, their influence on modern rock continues to grow.
Friday’s event runs from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at the Fed Square main stage and is open to all ages. Support comes from Melbourne pop-rock outfit Public Figures. More information here.
