Melbourne is gearing up for a record-breaking night of pure joy as thousands of fans are expected flock to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on 13 March 2026 for We Are The Voice, a one-off celebration of John Farnham’s biggest hits.
The event aims to set a world record for the most people singing Farnham songs, with music director Chong Lim and the legendary Farnham Band leading the crowd. A portion of proceeds will support The Head and Neck Cancer Foundation, adding heart to the high spirits.
The format is simple but wildly ambitious. The audience becomes the choir, belting out classics like You’re the Voice and maybe even Sadie while the Farnham Band anchors every chorus. The group will perform together for the first time since Firefight in 2020, adding another layer of excitement for long-time fans.
John Farnham says the event is one of his favourite kinds of celebrations and is glad to support a cause close to him. The Head and Neck Cancer Foundation says his story has helped shine a national spotlight on a cancer often misunderstood and frequently diagnosed too late.
“This will be a fun event at one of my favourite venues on the planet, and for a very worthy cause,” Farnham said.
“Singing my songs for a world record sounds like a challenge, but if they can get the lyrics right to my songs, they will be doing better than me!
“I can’t be there, but you will have Chong and the band, and some fine singers all doing their best,” he said.
Record-setters from The Australian Book of Records will oversee the attempt, fresh off recent wins including most people dancing The Nutbush and the world’s largest gathering of bagpipers.
Tickets go on sale today at 12pm AEDT, and organisers expect families, friends and superfans to fill the Bowl for what promises to be a colourful, communal and very loud night out.
