The armour of notorious bushranger Edward “Ned” Kelly has been on display at the South Rotunda of the State Library of Victoria for more than two years and is about to be moved to a more prominent location within the library.
The armour is one of the most valued and popular collection items. It’s being relocated to the Redmond Barry Reading Room – a move the Library says will take around a month as moving much a large and significant item takes time.
Ned Kelly is a divisive figure in Australian history. The convicted murderer is seen as a folk hero to some and a cold blooded killer to others.
You will be able to see the armour in its current location until 2 October, along with his Jerilderie Letter – so if you want to visit it soon you have a little time left before it will be out of action for a month.
