Midsumma and PHOTO 2024, in collaboration with Creative Victoria’s Go West program, present Queer PHOTO—an unprecedented initiative.
Queer PHOTO introduces a series of photography exhibitions, outdoor experiences, and engaging public events delving into themes of identity, culture, and resilience. Through the lens of the queer perspective, individual stories weave together elements of intimacy and sexuality, offering an invitation to witness the intersection of traditional cultural boundaries, contemporary bodies, and a celebration of sex positivity.
This unique project includes artist commissions for large-scale outdoor artworks, gallery exhibitions, and an interactive public performance program featuring local and international artists.
The events will take place in Footscray, Newport, and Werribee from January 27 to March 24, 2024, as part of both the Midsumma Festival and PHOTO 2024. With the participation of over 17 artists, showcasing 14 exhibitions, offering 30 interactive events, and spanning across 7 locations, Queer PHOTO aims to transform iconic venues and the streets of the west into a vibrant gallery, showcasing accessible and highly visible visual artworks from LGBTIQA+ artists.
