The Ballarat Winter Festival is set to bring even more warmth and excitement to Victoria’s coldest season when it returns from 5 to 27 July 2025, featuring an impressive new Spiegeltent and a delicious Hot Choc Showdown among its expanded offerings.
This year’s festival introduces Ukiyo, a dazzling 7.5-metre-high Spiegeltent – meaning “floating world” in Japanese – which will become a centrepiece of the celebrations.

Positioned opposite the iconic ice-skating rink at the intersection of Sturt and Armstrong Streets, the tent will host multiple daily shows from 5–20 July, with family-friendly matinees and evening performances for mature audiences.
“The Ballarat Winter Festival is proof that there is so much to do in Ballarat during winter,” said City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves. “The new Spiegeltent adds another layer of excitement, and I can’t wait to see it come to life and catch a show inside.”
Foodies won’t want to miss the debut of Ballarat’s Hot Choc Showdown, where around 30 local cafes and restaurants will compete for the title of best hot chocolate. The festival also brings back beloved traditions including the 11th annual ice-skating rink, with special offers for those supporting local businesses.

Additional highlights include Winter Wonderlights at Sovereign Hill and Kryal Castle’s fiery Knights of Fire program.
With its mix of entertainment, food and winter magic, the Ballarat Winter Festival continues to establish itself as a must-visit destination during the school holidays.
