Cricket meets cabaret this summer as Denis Carnahan brings his cult hit Cricket The Musical back to the stage — and Melbourne fans are set for a side-splitting innings at Arts Centre Melbourne this December.
Following overwhelming demand, the wickedly funny singer, songwriter and satirist will deliver his trademark blend of sharp wit, parody and musical brilliance, serving up a hilarious take on the most dramatic moments of the 2025/26 cricket season. Melbourne’s stop on December 27 and 28 is expected to draw sports tragics, theatre lovers and anyone who’s ever shouted at the TV during an Ashes match.
Carnahan, Australia’s hardest-working musical sports satirist, has spent nearly two decades skewering the nation’s sporting obsessions through songs heard on ABC, Triple M, Fox Sports and The Footy Show. His viral hits about Stuart Broad’s “sportsmanship,” Mitchell Johnson’s moustache, and the chaos of Bazball have racked up millions of views online — but it’s live where his comedy really comes alive.
Cricket The Musical is part concert, part theatre, part dressing-room meltdown. Using sketches, caricatures and video, Carnahan brings to life the villains and heroes of the pitch, revisiting iconic cricket controversies, facial hair rivalries, and rule-bending antics that have made headlines for decades.
With the English cricket team touring Australia this summer, Carnahan says the timing couldn’t be better. Between “the Farce of the Wandering Bairstow,” the “drama of Indian shoulder charges” and the “burlesque of the Big Bash,” there’s no shortage of material.
Expect songs, satire and plenty of audience participation as Carnahan transforms the summer’s cricket circus into a laugh-out-loud musical celebration.
Cricket The Musical plays The Show Room at Arts Centre Melbourne on December 27 and 28. Tickets are on sale now at cricketthemusical.com.au
