Village Cinemas Fountain Gate is levelling up the moviegoing experiencein Melbourne’s south east, with tits brand new IMAX opened this week – perfectly timed for the advanced screening and release of Wicked: For Good. The upgrade marks a major moment for the long-standing cinema, bringing one of the world’s most immersive film formats to Westfield Fountain Gate.
Wicked: For Good has been digitally remastered using IMAX DMR technology, a process that enhances the film frame by frame for sharper detail, brighter images, deeper contrast and richer colour. The soundtrack is also remixed to match the scale of the visuals, creating an experience designed to place audiences inside the world of Oz.
At the heart of the new cinema is IMAX with Laser, a next generation projection and sound system exclusive to IMAX theatres. Its 4K laser projection engine delivers crystal clear images with increased resolution and the widest colour range yet available on screen. Paired with IMAX’s precision sound system, the setup offers striking clarity, powerful dynamic range and evenly distributed audio throughout the theatre.
The IMAX theatre has been purpose built for immersion, featuring stadium seating for clear sightlines from every seat and a custom screen engineered for maximum brightness. Guests wanting an extra level of comfort can book the IMAX Premium Pod, offering private seating and in-seat service.
To celebrate the launch, Fountain Gate will offer themed food and drink options during Wicked: For Good screenings, including a signature Baked Alaska and two mocktails served in collectible Elphaba and Glinda cups. Limited edition merchandise, from popcorn containers to drinkware, will also be available while stocks last.
