Melbourne families will soon be able to step into a prehistoric world as more than 60 animatronic dinosaurs arrive across three local zoos for a special seasonal event.
Dinos at the Zoo will run from Friday 3 April to Sunday 12 July at Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Open Range Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary, spanning both the Easter and winter school holiday periods.
The large scale installation will feature moving dinosaur models placed along walking trails, allowing visitors to encounter creatures from millions of years ago while exploring the zoo grounds.
At Melbourne Zoo, visitors can follow the Dino Trail and spot familiar dinosaurs including a towering T. Rex, raptors, stegosaurus and a triceratops with its babies. Children can also take part in a fossil dig at the excavation site, watch roaming dinosaur puppets and pick up themed food packs designed for younger visitors.
In the Yarra Valley, Healesville Sanctuary will host an area known as the Lost Sanctuary, where dinosaur displays are spread along bushland walking paths. As visitors move through the trail the dinosaurs gradually increase in size, adding to the sense of discovery.
Young visitors will also be able to play in the dome bubble Dino Egg Hatchery. Each morning between 9am and 10am the sanctuary will run a quieter Dino Doze session designed for guests with sensory needs, where the dinosaur figures remain still and silent. Daily ranger talks including Brachi Banter and T Rex Tales will also run throughout the event.
At Werribee Open Range Zoo, the experience takes on a more adventurous theme with 14 dinosaur displays surrounded by features like smoking volcanoes, bubbling swamps and fossil discoveries.
Visitors can also attend Dinos After Dark at Werribee between April 11 and 18 for an evening version of the experience.
Dinos at the Zoo is included with general admission, with children under 16 entering free on weekends, public holidays and Victorian school holidays.
