Melbourne commuters are getting their first taste of Town Hall Station, with Starbucks opening its doors ahead of the rest of the retail precinct this week.
Launching at 6am on Thursday 26 March, the new café becomes the first food and drink offering inside the Metro Tunnel’s flagship station, giving early risers a place to grab coffee before the wider precinct comes online.

To mark the opening, Starbucks is rolling out $5 matcha drinks, limited edition Harry Potter merchandise and a menu that leans into sweet, novelty flavours. Highlights include the Strawberry Crunch Matcha and Strawberry Crunch Frappuccino with a macaron on top, alongside more substantial options like a spicy bean burrito, sandwiches and desserts.
The space itself is designed for pace, but not at the expense of comfort. At 184 square metres, it’s compact, with a layout built to handle heavy foot traffic. Digital menu boards keep things moving, while softer lighting and muted tones aim to create a brief pause in what will likely be one of the city’s busiest commuter corridors.

Braeden Lord, Starbucks Australia CEO, said, “Opening within the new Town Hall station is a proud moment for Starbucks Australia. As the first food and beverage offering in this new transport hub, we have a unique opportunity to connect with customers early on, becoming part of the daily ritual for students, workers, visitors and travelers alike. This store reflects Starbucks Australia’s continued investment in creating spaces that meet customers where they are, at the centre of daily life.”
The early opening gives Starbucks a head start in shaping the station’s daily rhythm, especially as thousands of commuters begin to pass through.
Starbucks Town Hall will trade daily from 6am to 10pm.
