Motorists in Melbourne’s north east are being urged to plan ahead, with a full weekend closure of the Eastern Freeway scheduled as part of ongoing works on the North East Link project.
From 10 pm on Friday 17 April through to 5 am on Monday 20 April, the freeway will be closed in both directions between Bulleen Road and Tram Road. The shutdown is expected to cause significant disruptions, particularly during peak periods, with delays of up to 60 minutes likely.
Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes where possible. Detours will be in place via Thompsons Road, Manningham Road and Tram Road to help manage traffic flow during the closure.
The works form part of the broader North East Link project, one of Victoria’s largest road infrastructure upgrades, aimed at improving connections across the city’s north and east. As construction progresses, intermittent disruptions are expected to continue across key roads in the area.
