North Melbourne nightlife venue VIVA Melbourne is turning up the heat this winter, launching two brand-new immersive productions designed to blur the line between theatre, nightlife and performance art.
Since opening, VIVA has quickly built a reputation as one of Melbourne’s most talked-about late-night destinations, drawing comparisons to the underground club scenes of Berlin and New York with its immersive shows and high-energy atmosphere. Now, the venue is expanding with the arrival of Scandal and Society.
Scandal is described as a more intimate and close-quarters experience, pulling guests deeper into the performance as the night unfolds. Designed to feel provocative, unpredictable and immersive, the production transforms throughout the evening, shifting from theatrical spectacle into a late-night dance floor experience with music, low lighting and an atmosphere built for lingering long after the show ends.
Alongside it comes Society, an invitation-only experience hidden inside The Upstairs Club. Created as a secretive after-dark world for “the bold and the curious”, Society promises immersive entertainment, flowing drinks and boundary-pushing performances inside a more intimate setting where audiences are encouraged to feel part of the experience rather than simply watching it unfold.
“VIVA was created to be more than a venue. From the beginning, it has been about building a world where guests can step outside of the everyday and into something completely immersive,” said Director Karlee Kaminski.
“The response since opening has been incredible, with audiences embracing the energy, creativity and escapism we set out to create. With Scandal and Society, we are pushing that even further into late-night territory, where the experience becomes more intimate, more unexpected and more unforgettable.”
Together, the new productions mark the next evolution of VIVA Melbourne’s growing nightlife identity, cementing its place as one of the city’s more ambitious immersive entertainment spaces.
Scandal and Society will run Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at VIVA Melbourne in North Melbourne.
