Families with young children are invited to spend a day playing, creating and learning at State Library Victoria as A Day of Play: Shaping Their Start in Victoria takes over the iconic Melbourne venue on 10 June.
Designed for children aged two to five, the free indoor event celebrates the role of play in early childhood education, giving families a hands-on look at how kinder helps children build confidence, creativity, communication skills and social connection through everyday play-based learning.
Parents can drop in for a quick activity or stay for hours, with the all-day event featuring interactive stations, educator-led activities and colourful creative spaces designed to encourage curiosity and exploration.
Children will be able to contribute to a collaborative Play Mural Station, experiment with building materials at the Create Station and join in parachute games focused on teamwork, movement and coordination. There’ll also be a Little Scientists Investigation Table where kids can use magnifying glasses to explore materials and develop observation and problem-solving skills through play.
The event aims to showcase how Victoria’s Free Kinder program supports children during some of the most important years of development, helping build strong cognitive, emotional and social foundations before primary school.
Hosted inside State Library Victoria, the event also offers families a relaxed and welcoming space to learn more about early childhood education and how kinder supports learning through creativity, imagination and social interaction.
Whether your child is already attending kinder, preparing to start, or you’re simply curious about how play-based learning works, the event promises plenty of fun for both kids and adults.
