A new era has arrived for Melbourne’s iconic Imperial Hotel, with the Bourke Street pub officially unveiling its revamped rooftop.
Perched above the CBD, the refreshed open-air space introduces a new feature bar, updated furniture, fresh styling and temporary covered areas designed to make the rooftop usable through winter. In the coming weeks, a fully retractable roof will complete the transformation, turning the space into a year-round destination for after-work drinks, sport screenings and weekend catch-ups.

The rooftop launch forms part of a broader refurbishment across the entire venue, with upgrades also rolled out through the public bar, dining rooms and function spaces. While the interiors have been modernised, the venue has held onto the classic pub atmosphere that has made The Imperial a long-time favourite with city workers, sports fans and visitors alike.
The timing couldn’t be better, with the 2026 World Cup only days away and The Imperial preparing to go all in as one of Melbourne’s major football viewing destinations. Every match of the tournament will be shown live across the venue, including on a mega-screen installed on the Rooftop.

The World Cup celebrations kick off on Friday 12 June with a 5am opening match watch party featuring live screenings of the opening ceremony, a live band, halftime giveaways and complimentary brekky sliders between 5am and 6am.
The food menu is also leaning heavily into comfort pub classics and match-day eats. Expect giant yorkie lamb roasts, bratwurst hoagie rolls, croque monsieur, schnitzels, burgers and hearty winter dishes including beef cheek and beef and mushroom pie.

To celebrate the Rooftop opening, the venue will host a launch event on Wednesday 10 June from 4pm to 6pm with free first drinks through The Pass app, snacks and live music.
