A hidden new cocktail destination is set to open in the heart of the CBD this winter, with Bar Privé bringing classic drinks, French-inspired snacks and elegant private dining spaces to the historic he former Melbourne Safety Deposit on Queen Street from 15 July.
The new venue comes from Edition Hospitality Group, the team behind Reine & La Rue and Florentino, and marks the group’s first dedicated cocktail-focused concept.
Tucked beside Reine & La Rue at 90 Queen Street, Bar Privé is designed as a refined destination for classic drinks, French-inspired snacks and private gatherings

. Housed within the heritage building’s ground floor rooms, the venue leans into the property’s character, offering a series of warm, intimate spaces that feel worlds away from the bustle of the CBD.
Leading the drinks offering is group bar manager Felix Woods, whose experience includes some of Melbourne’s most respected bars, including The Everleigh, Above Board, Black Pearl and Romeo Lane. The cocktail list focuses on timeless favourites, with Martinis, Champagne cocktails, French brandies and Sazeracs taking centre stage, alongside a small selection of signature creations and tableside service.
The food menu has been developed by group culinary director Michael Greenlaw and Reine & La Rue executive chef Andy Roche. Expect elevated bar snacks including pork scratchings with French onion dip, duck liver and foie gras parfait with burnt orange marmalade, panisse with roasted garlic aioli and a French dip baguette.

Edition Hospitality Group founder and CEO Rebecca Yazbek said the idea emerged from growing demand for more intimate hospitality experiences.
“We’ve seen strong demand for private dining and event experiences at Reine & La Rue, but we also wanted to create a destination people could enjoy in a more flexible way,” she said.
“Bar Privé gives us the opportunity to create a cocktail experience that stands on its own while also sitting naturally alongside Reine,”
She added that the venue was designed to feel welcoming whether guests are dropping in for a pre-dinner Martini, settling in for cocktails and snacks or celebrating a special occasion.
Reservations are now open ahead of the official launch.
Bar Privé is at 90 Queen Street, Melbourne and will be open Tuesday to Saturday from 5 pm until late. Website: www.barprive.com.au
