After a sell-out 2025 Halloween, Old Melbourne Gaol is back bigger, bolder and spookier, with two distinctly different experiences taking over the historic landmark this October.
During the day, families can expect a Halloween adventure packed with ghostly characters, mysterious clues, trick-or-treating, crafts and games. Young escapees will be tasked with finding the Ghost Judge’s missing wig, creating Halloween crafts, posing for a spooky mugshot and completing a haunted scavenger hunt.
Once the hunt is complete, little visitors can present their stamped passport to the Ghost Sergeant in the Charge Room to secure their release. There’ll also be trick-or-treat lollies, courtyard games, spooky photo opportunities and plenty of activities to keep the whole family entertained.
After dark, the gaol will transform for an adults-only Halloween experience. From 6pm, visitors can explore the historic cells, discover haunted attractions and enjoy after-dark escapades, with a dedicated photo booth and the Bizarre Bar open throughout the night.
With its dark history and atmospheric cells, Old Melbourne Gaol provides a suitably spooky setting. The landmark has been the backdrop to stories including the baby farming murders, the wrongful hanging of Colin Campbell Ross and prisoner Frederick Deeming, who was once thought to be Jack the Ripper.
Family sessions run from 10am to 5pm, while adult Halloween fun starts at 6pm, with final entry at 9pm. Visitors are encouraged to dress up as their favourite ghost, zombie or notorious character.
Located in Melbourne’s CBD, the gaol is within walking distance of restaurants and shops, making it an easy addition to a Halloween night out. For bookings, head here.
