Funfields Themepark in Whittlesea is gearing up for a bigger summer, with a new 235-metre waterslide set to become Australia’s longest mat-racing attraction when it launches later this season.
Named Kraken Unleashed, the upgraded ride takes the park’s former 160-metre Kraken Racer and adds another 75 metres of twists, turns and special effects. Standing more than 22 metres tall, the attraction will challenge four riders to race side by side towards the finish line.
The new upper section features a mix of dark and clear sections, adding extra surprises to the high-speed descent. An official opening date has yet to be announced, with the ride expected to launch sometime this summer.

Meanwhile, Funfields will reopen for the season on Saturday, 31 October, giving visitors plenty of other attractions to enjoy while they wait for the new slide.
Water lovers can tackle the 250-metre Supanova waterslide, take on the Gravity Wave raft ride or cool off in the Volcano Beach Wave Pool. Those after a slower pace can float along the Lava Lagoon Lazy River.
There is also plenty to do away from the water, including bumper cars, a carousel, a pirate ship swing and a 700-metre alpine toboggan slide.
Visitors can bring a picnic or use the park’s barbecue facilities, while burgers, chips and ice cream are available for those after classic theme park snacks.
Located in Whittlesea, around an hour’s drive from Melbourne’s CBD, Funfields offers a day trip option for families looking to make the most of the warmer weather.
