Prahran Town Hall has been transformed into a colourful nighttime attraction, with a new free light and projection experience celebrating the people, cultures and businesses behind Chapel Street.
Illuminate Chapel officially launched at the historic town hall, turning its façade and surrounding forecourt trees into a canvas of colourful projections and storytelling.
Running nightly until 30 March 2027, the experience features a series of changing themes highlighting the multicultural character and entrepreneurial spirit that have shaped one of Melbourne’s best-known retail, dining and entertainment precincts.
Created by brothers Nick and Zach Ennis, the team behind IMAGINATOR, the installation received $155,000 in Victorian Government funding through Business Victoria.
The activation is designed to encourage more people to explore Chapel Street after dark, with visitors able to combine the free light show with dinner, shopping and an evening out in the precinct.
City of Stonnington Mayor Cr Melina Sehr said the installation celebrates the generations of people who have contributed to Chapel Street’s identity.
“For generations, people from diverse cultural backgrounds have brought their traditions, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to this precinct, helping create the street we know today,” said Cr Sehr.
“Illuminate Chapel celebrates that legacy while bringing new energy to the precinct and giving people another reason to visit and enjoy Chapel Street after dark.”
The attraction also comes as Chapel Street continues to draw significant visitor numbers. The precinct recorded 7.4 million visits in 2025, generating more than $1 billion in visitor spending.
Of that amount, $347 million came from nighttime activity, highlighting the importance of after-dark attractions to local businesses.
Previous major arts experiences in the precinct attracted more than 100,000 visitors and generated an estimated $3.8 million in local spending.
Illuminate Chapel is free to visit nightly at Prahran Town Hall until 30 March 2027.
