Scienceworks is turning astronomy into an evening affair with Discover The Night Sky, a sophisticated new monthly series for adults at Melbourne Planetarium.
Beginning July 31, these celestial soirées will combine cutting-edge science with stellar storytelling beneath the venue’s iconic 16-metre dome, all while the Planetarium’s galaxy bar serves drinks and light snacks from 7pm.
Astronomer Dr. Tanya Hill will guide attendees through monthly themes ranging from the Milky Way’s core (July 31) to Saturn’s rings (September 25) and the James Webb Telescope’s discoveries (October 30).
The experience blends immersive 360-degree visuals with expert Q&As, while clear nights offer bonus telescope viewings on the Scienceworks Arena with amateur astronomers.
Guests can choose between two formats: a 7:30pm planetarium show followed by 8:30pm stargazing, or reverse the order with 8pm sky viewing preceding a 9pm presentation. The series complements (but differs from) Planetarium Nights Friday screenings, offering deeper scientific engagement alongside evening refreshments.
With the galaxy bar setting the mood and cosmic wonders awaiting discovery, these monthly events promise Melbourne’s adults a stellar night out. Bookings are now open for this unique blend of astronomy and atmosphere.
