Castlemaine is aiming for a world record this November, with music fans invited to gather at the Old Castlemaine Gaol wearing T-shirts celebrating Australian bands and artists.
The event takes place on Sunday, 22 November, ahead of AusMusic T-Shirt Day on Thursday, 26 November, with organisers hoping to attract 250 participants to the regional Victorian town.
Last year’s gathering drew more than 180 people and their dogs, all sporting Australian band merchandise. This time, organisers are hoping to build on that turnout while raising money for Support Act, the music industry charity supporting musicians and music workers experiencing hardship.
Music lovers can bring a picnic, show off their favourite band shirts and meet fellow fans, with entry available for a gold coin donation. Four-legged music fans are welcome too, particularly those dressed for the occasion.
The day will feature live music from Bendigo-based indie rock singer-songwriter Nat Vazer, who has received two Australian Music Prize nominations for her albums Is This Offensive and Loud? and Strange Adrenaline.
There will also be prizes, a fundraising raffle, a DIY scavenger hunt for kids and a T-shirt swap, giving attendees the chance to trade band merchandise and discover new favourites.
Whether you have a treasured concert shirt or want to discover more Australian music, the Castlemaine gathering offers a chance to combine local community spirit with a good cause.
Support the cause by donating to Support Act through the Castlemaine fundraiser.
