After more than a decade away, one of Victoria’s most loved community swimming events is back, with the City of Stonnington reviving Take the Plunge at the Harold Holt Swim Centre in Glen Iris. The event invites recreational swimmers, seasoned competitors and local families to jump in for a full day of racing, games and poolside fun.
The headline race is the 1 km swim classic, a 20 lap challenge that will see participants compete for the Take the Plunge title. Swimmers can also enter the 400 m event or the fast and furious 50 m sprint, with each $20 ticket covering up to three races. Age divisions span 18 and under, open age and 65 and over, and wave start times will be emailed to competitors one week before the event.
Every participant receives a race pack that includes a mesh bag, swim cap, dry ears spray, Premax de chlorine shampoo and conditioner, Hydrodol electrolyte and magnesium powder and a mystery gift.
Once the races wrap, the celebrations begin. The post race pool party will take over both indoor and outdoor areas, complete with giant inflatables, music and a classic sausage sizzle. The party is open to everyone, with casual entry fees applying for those not competing.
Returning to its original home and community, Take the Plunge celebrates local sport, summer weather and the thrill of friendly competition.
Whether you are swimming for a personal best or cheering from the sidelines, this long awaited comeback promises a lively day in the water at one of Melbourne’s most iconic suburban pools.
