For the first time in its long history, Melbourne’s wholesale market is inviting the public inside, giving everyday shoppers access to bulk fresh produce and flowers at wholesale prices.
Launching on Saturday 31 January 2026, Melbourne Market Super Saturdays will run every Saturday from 8.30am to 1.30pm, transforming the bustling trading floor at Melbourne Market in Epping into a lively public market experience. The new initiative offers a rare chance to shop where Melbourne’s food industry shops, straight from growers and wholesalers.

Operated by the Melbourne Market Authority in partnership with traders, Super Saturdays focus on bulk buying rather than individual items. Fruit, vegetables and cut flowers will be sold by the box, tray or bunch, delivering fresher produce and better value than traditional retail or farmers’ markets.
Shoppers can expect a standout selection of summer produce, including tomatoes, berries, mangoes, melons, zucchini, capsicum, apricots and other seasonal stone fruit. Buying in bulk makes it easy to save money, stock up for the week, or split a box with friends or family.

Opening day specials add extra incentive, with a 10kg box of nectarines for $8 available to the first 150 customers. There will also be 5kg premium trays of nectarines and peaches for $25 from V.F. Siciliano, along with eggs for $2 a dozen or $3.50 for two dozen from Latorre’s.
Melbourne Market Acting CEO Malcom Lum said the launch marked an important shift for the historic site.
“Opening the wholesale market to the public for the first time means families can access fruit and vegetables at great value, while getting a unique insight into where Melbourne’s food comes from,” he said.

Super Saturdays are designed as a relaxed, family-friendly outing. Alongside the trading floor, visitors can grab brunch or lunch from food truck favourites including potato twists on sticks, banh mi, burgers, burek and ice cream. Free kids face painting adds to the atmosphere.
Outside of Super Saturdays, the Melbourne Market continues to operate as usual for wholesale trade.
