Melbourne audiences are set to turn up the volume next month as Amplified: The Exquisite Rock and Rage of Chrissy Amphlett returns for a strictly limited five show season at the Comedy Theatre from 19 to 22 March.
This electrifying and deeply personal production pays tribute to Chrissy Amphlett, the fearless frontwoman of Divinyls, whose seismic presence and unmistakable rock rasp reshaped Australian music. From suburban pub stages to chart topping success, Amphlett’s fusion of sexuality and vulnerability defined a generation.
Fronting a raucous four piece band is acclaimed performer and writer Sheridan Harbridge, known for My Brilliant Career and Prima Facie, under the musical direction of Glenn Moorhouse. Directed and co created by Sarah Goodes, the show weaves together Amphlett’s unforgettable songs and anecdotes, tracing her rise in a male dominated industry and the spell she cast on audiences.
Goodes says; “No one can be Chrissy. We can only hope to reach for the spell she cast on us all, and in the hands of a performer like Sheridan, that spell is pretty intoxicating.”
“Amplified weaves together myth, music and the deep reverence people still hold for Chrissy Amphlett, creating a fresh, emotionally charged Australian production that celebrates not just an icon, but the powerful connection she created with a generation.”
The production draws inspiration from the one woman show Amphlett had been developing before her passing, brought to life after Goodes was approached by her husband and friend to realise that vision.
Following its 2025 Melbourne premiere and a sell out season at Belvoir St Theatre in Sydney, Amplified now returns home for a powerful encore. Tickets on sale now at www.amplifiedlive.com.au
