A new winter event is set to light up Seymour, with Lights on the Goulburn transforming Goulburn Park into a glowing riverside celebration filled with projections, lanterns, food trucks and family-friendly activities.
Running from 5pm to 9pm, the free one-off event has been created to bring the community together following the impact of recent flood and bushfire events across the region. Visitors can expect illuminated spaces, colourful light displays and interactive experiences designed for all ages as the park comes alive after dark.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Cr John Dougall said: “Lights on the Goulburn is designed to bring people together in a warm, welcoming and creative way. After the impacts of recent flood and bushfire events, this event gives our community a chance to reconnect, reflect and enjoy a shared moment of light and celebration.”
One of the major highlights of the evening will be the community lantern parade, with locals encouraged to create and bring their own handmade lanterns to join the procession. Participation is free and open to everyone, with registered participants receiving a complimentary LED tea light on the night. Organisers have noted that glass lanterns will not be permitted.
Alongside the parade, the event will feature creative play spaces, illuminated installations and a line-up of food trucks serving warm winter meals and snacks throughout the evening.
As the event takes place outdoors during winter, attendees are encouraged to dress warmly and bring along a blanket or camping chair to settle in and enjoy the atmosphere. Guests are also welcome to bring their own picnic if preferred.
Lights on the Goulburn has been developed as an alcohol-free community event focused on connection, recovery and shared experiences, offering locals a chance to gather together during the colder months in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
