One of Melbourne’s biggest NAIDOC Week celebrations is returning with a free day of music, culture, art and community, led by one of Australia’s most beloved performers.
Christine Anu will headline this year’s NAIDOC in the City festival and free concert at Federation Square on 10 July joining a powerful line-up of First Peoples artists that also includes Bumpy, Zipporah, Benny Walker and more.
Ann’s career spans music, theatre, film and broadcasting. The acclaimed Torres Strait Islander artist remains one of the country’s most respected performers, known for her powerful live shows and commitment to celebrating culture and community. In recent years she has continued to expand her artistic legacy, including the release of her acclaimed 2024 album Waku – Minaral A Minalay.
The annual NAIDOC in the City event has become a highlight of NAIDOC Week, bringing together live music, creative workshops, market stalls and family-friendly activities in a vibrant community celebration.
Open to all, the festival showcases the diversity and strength of First Peoples culture through a packed program designed to engage visitors of all ages. Alongside the live performances, visitors can explore the KHT NAIDOC Week Market, featuring more than 20 First Peoples stallholders offering art, fashion, jewellery, craft and design.
The festival will also include free workshops and interactive activities, while dedicated spaces such as the Elders Lounge and a quiet area provide opportunities for connection, reflection and community gathering.
This year’s NAIDOC Week theme, 50 Years of Deadly, marks five decades of NAIDOC Week as a community-led movement. The theme honours the Elders, leaders, artists and communities who have helped shape its history while looking ahead to the future with strength, pride and resilience.
