An immersive Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy is bringing the author’s iconic tales to life in Melbourne, inviting guests to experience four classic stories through live narration, atmospheric surroundings and themed cocktails.
Taking place over several nights in Fitzroy North, the experience transforms a hidden venue into a Gothic-inspired speakeasy where guests are surrounded by flickering candlelight, dramatic narration and carefully crafted cocktails designed to complement each story.

The experience unfolds across four of Poe’s best-known tales, with each chapter offering its own distinct mood and atmosphere. Visitors will journey through the grief and mystery of The Raven, the growing unease of The Black Cat, the lavish yet ominous world of The Masque of the Red Death and the psychological tension of The Tell-Tale Heart.
Rather than simply retelling the stories, the production creates a fully immersive setting where the sounds, flavours and surroundings work together to bring Poe’s writing to life. Each bespoke cocktail has been created to reflect the themes and emotions of the story being performed, adding another sensory layer to the evening.

The intimate speakeasy setting is particularly suited to Poe’s work, allowing audiences to experience the suspense, mystery and Gothic atmosphere that have made his stories enduring classics for generations.
Whether you’re a longtime admirer of Edgar Allan Poe or simply looking for a unique night out in Melbourne, the experience offers a fresh way to explore classic literature through live performance and expertly matched cocktails.
Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy will be held at 75 Reid Street, Fitzroy North on select dates in August and October 2026.
