Melbourne’s appetite for immersive experiences is about to get a darker twist with the arrival of Serial Killer Speakeasy, a theatrical cocktail event that dives into some of America’s most notorious criminal cases through live storytelling, performance and carefully crafted drinks.
Taking over a venue at 75 Reid Street in Fitzroy North, the touring experience combines true crime and theatre in a low-lit speakeasy setting where guests are guided through four infamous cases linked to Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy and Ed Gein.
Rather than a traditional theatre production, the experience unfolds across four chapters, with actors bringing key moments and characters to life through performance-led storytelling. Throughout the evening, guests are immersed in a world of forensic detail, suspenseful narration, atmospheric sound design and dramatic lighting that aims to recreate the tension of a true crime investigation.
Each chapter is paired with a themed cocktail, while non-alcoholic options are also available for those preferring mocktails. The focus remains firmly on storytelling, exploring the motives, consequences and wider impact of these crimes through a theatrical lens.
The event is likely to appeal to true crime podcast devotees, mystery lovers and anyone seeking a night out that leans more towards immersive theatre than a conventional bar experience. By blending live performance with hospitality, Serial Killer Speakeasy creates a distinctive format that sits somewhere between a stage production, a themed cocktail night and an interactive storytelling event.
With limited seating available at each session, tickets are expected to move quickly. Two performances are scheduled each evening at 6pm and 8.30pm, giving guests multiple opportunities to step inside this unsettling but fascinating world.
