Melbourne-formed electronic favourites The Avalanches are heading back on tour in 2027, with six Australian shows announced alongside special guest HAAi.
The national run will take the band to Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney in February and March, including a Melbourne performance at Live At The Gardens in the Royal Botanic Gardens.
The tour will begin with two shows at Perth Festival’s East Perth Power Station on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 February, with the Sunday performance already sold out. A second show was added on Saturday following demand.
The Avalanches will then head to Adelaide’s Hindley St Music Hall before arriving in Melbourne, followed by shows at On The Banks in Brisbane and the Sydney Opera House Forecourt on Sunday 7 March.
“We’re crazy excited to be back on home soil playing these shows in Australia,” The Avalanches said in a statement.
“We can’t wait to be back in a room with people and seeing where the night takes us. We’ve got a lot of new music we’re excited to play, alongside some old favourites, and we can’t wait to spend a few nights making some beautiful noise and memories together.”
That new material comes from the band’s fourth studio album, No Bad Memories, which is due for release on Friday 16 October.
The record features an impressive list of collaborators, including Jamie xx, Karen O, John Glacier, Rivers Cuomo, Panda Bear, Barry Can’t Swim, Ryoji Ikeda, Haruomi Hosono and Mike Patton.
The Avalanches have described the album as an exploration of the relationship between advertising, technology and memory, using everything from old jingles and start-up sounds to obsolete hardware and audio logos as musical building blocks.
Joining the band on the Australian tour will be Australian-born, London-based electronic artist HAAi, who releases her new 10-track club record DIGITiSE on Friday 9 October.
